Skyler Design Build, LLC (“Skyler”) is eager to hire a Lead Estimator for its growing design-build firm in Houston, TX.

This position focuses on preparing estimates for commercial construction projects with medical construction business lines.
As the Lead Estimator, you will share responsibility for cost accuracy with the project team and assist other Lead Estimators and managers in all types of estimating tasks.

This position will have daily interaction with the project team, owners, architects, vendors and subcontractors during bid and throughout project when necessary. The opportunity will allow the Lead Estimator to have a unique experience of the full construction process.

The Lead Estimator will be responsible for breaking out each component of project, providing takeoff packages, soliciting vendor and subcontractor input, verifying fabrication and delivery ability, providing alternative solutions, identifying areas of concern, detailed cost breakdown, bid package, project and management buy off on proposal approach and cost, including assemble of preliminary project schedule.

Upon award, the Lead Estimator will need to identify and provide three or four qualified bidders, setup qualified bidder interviews, verify architect and owner selections and signoff, and project turnover packages to project execution and management team.

Also, the Lead Estimator will follow project working with project accountants and managers in weekly or monthly project review meetings validating project is following Lead Estimator’s budget and schedule.

Duties & Responsibilities 
• Prepare estimates for potential projects using hard-bid, design-build, conceptual estimating
• Read and understand contract documents (plans, specifications)
• Issues RFI to architects, engineers, and owners addressing any questions or concerns
• Perform quantity take-offs, organizes and prices information
• Solicit bids, quotes and schedules from subcontractors and suppliers
• Communicate with sub-contractors and suppliers to clarify pricing
• Prepare estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs and bid analysis
• Assist with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal
• Prepare outline schedules for proposed projects
• Assist staff members with special projects related to estimates
• Follow awarded projects that Lead Estimator is part of throughout its lifecycle
• Perform various duties as assigned or required when necessary

Qualifications 
• High school diploma required, four-year degree from an accredited university within construction or engineering concentrations or equivalent education and experience
• 2+ years’ experience in estimating commercial and/or medical/hospital construction projects, showing competence in hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating.
Previous experience on commercial job sites, mission critical construction, and hospital construction strongly preferred
• Ability to recognize and seek quality and cost savings
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Adequate knowledge of construction practices and methods as required by the role
• Skillful in using software, specifically, Timberline, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
• Working knowledge and ability to master sector/project-specific software systems including but not limited to:
PowerPoint, Project, Access, Adobe, ProCore, BlueBeam, JD Edwards, ISQFT, and OneTeam.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD or Primavera systems is preferred
• Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines
• Ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, printer, phone, copier, fax, etc.
• Willingness to travel local and potentially nationwide 25%+ depending on the project
