Skyler Design Build seeks to get involved early in the design phase so that we can manage the project more efficiently, provide effective building solutions, and identify challenges early on to mitigate design changes after construction commencement. 

Skyler Design Build commercial general contracting services takes our clients from pre-construction through commercialization of any small, medium or large project.  Skyler provides new commercial construction, buildout, renovations, maintenance, and restoration services.

Skyler Design Build is currently looking to fill the following positions:

  • Laborer I: Job duties/responsibilities include minimum of 1 year experience in concrete work, constructing the form work for placement of concrete, assembles column or wall form work (all types: Gang forms, Stick Build, Slip Forms, etc), set anchor bolts templates, erects temporary handrails & associated safety related items, also does sawing, stripping, nailing, burning, measuring, tightening/loosening bolts, drilling, painting, and other directed laborer tasks.
  • Laborer II: Job duties/responsibilities include minimum of 3 years’ experience in concrete work, constructing the form work for placement of concrete, assembles column or wall form work (all types: Gang forms, Stick Build, Slip Forms, etc), set anchor bolts templates, erects temporary handrails & associated safety related items, also does sawing, stripping, nailing, burning, measuring, tightening/loosening bolts, drilling, painting, and other directed laborer tasks.
  • Carpenter: Job duties/responsibilities include minimum of 3 years’ experience in construction and carpentry. Responsible for designing, building, installing, and repairing structures, fixtures, furniture, and other items using different types of materials including wood and steel. Prepare the layout of the project. Estimate height, width, length, and other proportions. Select materials. Work with blueprints or instructions from supervisors. Work with materials such as wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall. Utilize chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures. Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives. Work on top of stilts, ladders, and the top beams of buildings. Check work along the way to ensure it’s up to code and specifications. Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure. Install cabinets and molding. Create structures for pouring concrete. Erect scaffolding and build tunnel bracing. Build concrete forms for tunnel or sewer construction project. Replace panes of glass, ceiling tiles, and doors.
  • Landscape Technician: Job duties/responsibilities include 1+ years’ experience in commercial landscaping, and previous experience on commercial job sites. Constant sitting, standing, walking, reaching, crawling, balancing, carrying, lifting, digging, grasping, and operating. Frequent lifting, carrying, climbing, stooping/crouching, and kneeling. Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds of material and up to 90 pounds of material with assistance. Hazardous knowledge and properly trained in handling fertilizer, chemicals, and fuel. Display appropriate appearance and professional conduct and makes a good impression on others. Knowledge of design and field tools, equipment, techniques, skills, materials, and methods of irrigation system design, installation, and maintenance. Involved in laying sod, planting trees and shrubs, digging holes and trenches, moving soil, rock and mulch, installing sprinklers. Cleaning fountains and other water features. Use of manual hand tools such as shovels and carpentry hand tools. Use of equipment mower, blower, weed eater, chainsaw, spreader, sprayer, brick/cutoff saw, skid steer, mini excavator, and pipe feeder. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Irrigation Technician: Job duties/responsibilities include 5+ years’ experience in irrigation installation and maintenance, including experience with a commercial and/or residential landscaper preferred. Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction, based on knowledge of available tools and equipment and various equipment and/or installation methods. Operates power equipment and hand tools to install, maintain and repair irrigation systems and related components including irrigation lines, sprinkler heads, control panels, valves, pumps, etc. Checks systems for proper operation and timing. May participate in the design or modification of new or existing systems. Performs seasonal maintenance such as system charging and draining. Maintains inventory of related parts and supplies. May lead workers on irrigation projects and work on other grounds related assignments as needed. May interact with the Project Manager to determine the project schedule; develops and utilizes “look ahead” schedules to assess progress and spot upcoming issues. May coordinate pre-construction meetings with the Project Manager prior to mobilization. Directs procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules. Ensures all parties involved with the project are informed of irrigation or fountain issues and progress: (1) meets with and directs supervisory personnel engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays; (2) meets regularly with craft personnel to update them on construction issues and to gather input for solutions; (3) meets with subcontractors prior to the sub’s mobilization to review scope of work and schedule; also, advises subs prior to each phase of work on schedule and phasing requirements; and (4) meets regularly with clients to update them on the project’s progress. Works with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within the project work force. Confers with supervisory and field personnel and/or inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and to improve fountain and irrigation system installation methods. Inspects work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and to installation schedules. Manages the project based on progress reports, materials used, and costs and adjusts work schedules accordingly. Works with the Manager of Landscape and Maintenance to move personnel from project to project, minimizing hiring and layoffs; is responsible for crew mixes and work assignments to manage labor costs; may terminate company craft personnel not performing according to company policies, procedures, or other job requirements. Works in conjunction with project managers in preparing the Project Management Plans. Ensures that company policies, such as safety policies, equal opportunity, and others, are implemented consistently. Ensures company quality standards and housekeeping requirements are maintained. Tracks and coordinates equipment deliveries. Develops pre-construction and construction RFP packages. Develops process and procedures, training guides, health and safety programs, field logs and protocols. Assists or leads in bidding process and material takeoffs. Assists or leads in material management and inventory. Assists or leads in creating and managing a project budget. Establishes job processes (RFIs, submittals, and pay applications) including approving pay applications and negotiating subcontract change orders. Ensures that required project documentation is submitted in accordance with the project schedule. Manages in conducting project meetings, setting milestones and formulating monthly owners report. Update project schedule; ensure project quality control and establish overall project logistics. Review vendor submittals. Collaborates with the project team and site operations team throughout the life of the project. Manages in developing a critical path schedule. Maintain adherence to Skyler’s standards of safety and lead safety meetings and training. Assists or manages Skyler, Owners, Subcontractors and Vendors to provide conflict resolution for Project issues. Assists or manages in coordinating and managing the quality control process for all scoped systems. Coordinates and tracking critical path construction activities. Assists or manages in managing startup and pretesting of mechanical and electrical systems. Coordinates and supporting third party commissioning activities. Assists or manages commissioning documentation. Assists or develops the closeout process and package. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Estimator: Job duties/responsibilities include minimum of 2 years’ experience in estimating commercial and/or medical/hospital construction projects, showing competence in hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating. High school diploma required, and a four-year degree from an accredited university within construction or engineering concentrations or equivalent education and experience. Prepares estimates for potential projects using hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating. Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specifications, and addenda). Issues RFI to architects, engineers, and owners addressing questions and concerns. Performs quantity take-offs, organizes and prices information. Prepares estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs, and bid analysis. Assists with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal. Prepares outline schedules for proposed projects. Assists staff members with various special projects related to estimating. Follows awarded projects that individual estimates throughout lifecycle. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
  • Entry Level Field Engineer: Job duties/responsibilities include 2-5 years’ experience in commercial construction, including experience with a commercial general contractor, or experience in medical/hospital construction preferred. High school diploma required, four-year degree from an accredited university within construction, engineering, business concentrations, or engineering is strongly preferred.   • Business Development and Account Manager: Job duties/responsibilities include identify potential customers and make cold calls that result in meetings and convert prospects into actual sales. Establishes goals and objectives, and strategies for developing new business while maintaining previous client relationships. Develop both new and existing accounts and expand business through face-to-face contact with the customers. Maintains a customer/prospect database that contains the names, addresses and actual phone numbers of actual and prospective accounts as well as all of the names of the officers and key office and field personnel that represent these customers/prospects. Regularly uses and maintains customer/prospect database. Develops and leads effective management, communication and tracking processes, and implements Client Relationship Management (CRM) strategies supporting Sector client goals. Identifies short-term and long-term client needs or concerns to address; provides pertinent information and follow-up. Works with owners and critically reviews and approves key proposals submitted to clients, ensuring signing authorities are enforced. Serves as main client contact and advises appropriate departments of prospects and submittal. Represent a full spectrum of services offered by Skyler in the commercial, industrial, medical, residential, and specialty markets for construction, grounds, landscaping, and maintenance services lines of the business. Actively participates in professional and/or industrial organizations to promote the Skyler brand. Represents and promotes Skyler at networking events, professional and industrial associations, society meetings, conferences, and tradeshows. Communicates clearly and collaborates with engineering, as required, to insure accurate proposals. Prepares proposals and obtains appropriate managerial approval. Drafts final proposals, insuring management approval and customer signatures are obtained. Presents proposals while selling the features and benefits of our products to close sales. Partners with architectural and engineering firms for jobs under contract and obtains approved drawings. Conducts regularly scheduled jobsite service visits instructing the workers in the proper and safe utilization of equipment thereby shortening their learning curve. Ensures that the customer is satisfied with the services they are receiving. Accountable for all credit interactions with the customer including obtaining contractor approval of invoices, making adjustments through credit requests and insuring prompt payment, as well as preparing and distributing monthly account status reports. Additionally, he/she settles accounts as soon as possible after the last major return of a project regarding lost material, damaged product, cleaning, freight and final returns. Timely and accurately completes weekly sales reports and provides information as needed for backlog and sales projections. Visits job sites as required. Continually builds product knowledge. Assists in ensuring safe working practices and a safe working environment. Some overnight travel as required. Additionally, he/she may be called upon to make sales or service calls outside of the designated territory as needed. Collaborates with the owners ensuring company and branch sales initiatives are aligned and achieved. Coordinates the pre-construction meeting with the Project Manager prior to mobilization. Perform analysis and interpret results into actionable steps. Assists closeout process and packages. Performs other related duties as assigned.
